Interim Management

Hands-on execution leadership where it matters most. Interim CAIO, Head of AI Transformation, or AI Governance Lead for organizations in active transformation — embedded in your team with the mandate to make things move.

The Problem This Solves

“We know what we need to do. We have a plan, a framework, and leadership buy-in. What we don’t have is someone in the organization with the time, the mandate, and the methodology to actually lead the execution — day in, day out, for the next six to twelve months.”

The transition from Stage 1 to Stage 2 of the AI Operating Model maturity continuum is primarily a leadership challenge, not a technology challenge. It requires someone with the authority to make structural decisions, the methodology to sequence them correctly, and the organizational presence to drive them through the inevitable friction of transformation. Most organizations have none of these three things in a single person with the time to do the work.

HandsOn interim management fills the execution gap. We hold structural roles — Interim CAIO, Head of AI Transformation, AI Governance Lead — inside your organization for the duration of the engagement. Not as external advisors who attend steering committees and deliver reports. As active members of your leadership team who own outcomes, make decisions, and are accountable for progress in exactly the way an internal leader would be.

Available Roles

Strategic ownership of the AI Operating Model build across all six design domains. Responsible for the Stage 1→2 transition architecture: structural evolution to center-led hybrid, Decision Rights Registry operationalization, process redesign for at least one core workflow, and governance activation. Reports directly to C-suite and holds full transformation authority for the duration of the engagement.

Dedicated ownership of D03 System Governance and D04 Decision Architecture. Builds the EU AI Act compliance classification, establishes the AI Ownership model, activates Lifecycle Governance processes, and populates the Decision Rights Registry. Operates as the internal authority on all governance decisions — attending risk committees, legal reviews, and technology approval gates as the named AI governance representative.

The center-led hybrid model requires Embedded AI Leads in each major business unit — positioned between the AI Hub and the business unit, with dual reporting lines to both. HandsOn can provide this role for specific business units during the critical Stage 1→2 transition period, until internal candidates are identified, developed, and ready to take ownership.

Every interim management engagement is designed for its own redundancy. From day one, HandsOn works to build internal capability alongside external delivery — identifying the internal successor, defining the knowledge transfer pathway, and ensuring that organizational momentum continues after the engagement ends. A HandsOn interim role that creates dependency has failed.

Ready to put execution leadership in place?

The difference between a transformation that stalls and one that delivers is rarely the plan. It is almost always the person accountable for executing it. HandsOn interim management puts that person in place — with the mandate, the methodology, and the timeline to make the transition happen.
